Modern Foreign Languages

At Spring Hill High School we believe in cultivating our students’ interests, providing new opportunities to learn and fostering their awareness of the world around them.

As part of our Modern Foreign Language (MFL) program, we provide students with the opportunity to cultivate their communication skills by studying AQA FCSE and GCSE Spanish. Students who are new to Spanish will initially be enrolled on the FCSE program, with the levels of study being equivalent to that of National Curriculum Levels 4, 5 and 6.

Students will have the opportunity to explore themes such as ‘My World’, ‘Holidays and Leisure’ and ‘Lifestyle’ in addition to developing their grammatical understanding of the language.

FCSE and GCSE Spanish cover all four language skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.

Students that do not meet the criteria for FCSE Spanish are able to access the AQA Unit Award Scheme. This affords students the chance to take a more fundamental approach to language learning and develop their intercultural capacity. Students are able to use Unit Awards as a stepping-stone to achieve a full qualification and a chance to gain accreditation for units of study completed.

Assessment in MFL

Assessment: This will be ongoing through in class study and Pupil self assessment and peer assessment of work There is an opportunity for pupils become certified in their study through the AQA Unit awards scheme.
