Our Life Skills Coach

Many of our students come to us with low self confidence and low self worth, or they come believing the challenges that they face are too high. At Spring Hill High school we appreciate the uniqueness of every student. We are able to see every student for who they really are - beautiful, powerful individuals who are on their own life journey. Our job is to empower them by helping them to build their confidence in all aspects of their lives so that they can push past emotional barriers and make positive choices, viewing life with a more fresh, positive and hopeful outlook.

Our Life Skills Coach/Counsellor

At Spring Hill High School our Life Skills Coach is Gary Anderson. He is also a qualified counsellor and a self protection instructor. Gary has a unique personality and holds a rare gift to inspire. His sessions are very supportive, confidential and non-judgemental.

Our Aims

  • To build students' confidence and self worth by teaching them how to tap into their internal resources
  • To establish communication that build rapport, trust and understanding
  • To encourage positive thinking through personalised tailor-made change processes
  • To encourage students to become lifelong learners.

Life Skills Coaching Sessions

The Life Skills Coaching sessions are done both at school and in the community. These sessions may include working with:

  • Anger, stress or anxiety
  • Substance abuse
  • Travel training
  • Dealing with abuse/traumas
  • Dealing with phobias
  • Self protection
  • Social skills

Additionally, Gary visits students in their local community to help them understand how to be safe in their community.

“When I met Gary I had no confidence. I wouldn’t go on buses or trains or go out without support. He helped me with my confidence and my anxiety. He has helped me with my motivation and facing some of my fears. These issues I had in the past, were controlling my life and Gary has helped me be more in control of my life. Now I can get on buses and trains by myself and much more! Now, I feel I have many more skills when making decisions for myself and my independent living skills which have improved hugely. Gary is so easy to get on with, a great listener, great understanding of others and has a great personality .”
