Liverpool Slavery Museum
Students from across all key stages had a fantastic day out in Liverpool, exploring the impact of slavery. They were intrigued to find out more about the slave trade and the influence it had on the development of Liverpool and Great Britain as a whole.
The Alexander Theatre
The GCSE English curriculum was brought to life for the students when they went to see the play Blood Brothers being performed. The students attended the performance as part of their preparation of their GCSE English controlled assessment. They thoroughly enjoyed the play and came away with a deeper understanding of the themes and characters.
The Skills Show
The trip to the World Skills Show at the NEC was a tremendous success. Most of our students were able to take the opportunity to explore the exhibitions from the wide variety of careers on display. The young people were excellent ambassadors for SHHS.
The Big Bang Fair
Every year our students join in the celebration of Science, Engineering, Technology and Maths exploring avenues of careers in Science and Engineering. They take part in fun activities and apply their scientific knowledge.
Anti Bullying Play Comes to Spring Hill High School
Spring Hill High School had the privilege of hosting a performance of the Anti Bullying Play ‘Hope’. The play was performed by the Takeaway Theatre Company. The play tackled the issues surrounding bullying and stimulated a lot of thought amongst the students. The reaction from the audience was positive:
‘I liked the ending because, Hope showed forgiveness and they became friends.’
‘I enjoyed the play ‘Hope’ because I got bullied …... I’m happy that they explained to others how to stand up to others’
The success of the event means we shall be holding more performances such as this in the future
Birmingham Dogs Home
Students who have shown an interest in animal care had the grand opportunity of visiting the the Birmingham Dogs home for a bespoke careers visit.
The visit included a talk about the work of the dog’s home, how the dog’s home raises funds and what careers could be possible in the dog’s home.
What Careers Live
Our students attended the ‘What Careers Live’ at the NEC Birmingham.Students were able to speak directly to staff from the Human Resources departments from a wide range of companies that represented a very diverse spread of industries regarding the employment opportunities that they offer. Students were also able to speak to a large selection of universities regarding the qualifications that would be advisable for future study. Our students found the event very informative and enjoyable.
The Central School of Make-Up
Students who have an interest in beauty and make up went to the Central School of Makeup to have a talk about careers in the Cosmetics Industry. This was a unique opportunity for students to explore different aspects of the industry and speak to professionals. Our students were excellent ambassadors for the school, not only learning about makeup techniques but also getting fully involved in showing off their own creative skills.
DJ GYM Birmingham
DJ GYM is in partnership with esteemed London DJ school 'London Sound Academy'. It provides an opportunity for students who have an interest in music to have specialist one to one tuition in DJing and music production. This takes place in the custard factory at a state of the art studio. Tuition at DJ GYM is tailored to meet our students individual needs. Through the use of cutting edge technology students can learn as a hobby or progress into pursuing a career in the music business. Recent graduates of the programme have gone on to DJ for top artists and have also featured on Radio 1XTRA.
